This star shaped flower, dusted with pollen is a magnet for butterflies. It grows along the roadside and climbs bushes and trees. I haven’t been able to catch the butterflies on camera. They’re far too fast.
As Summer Races Toward Fall
Summer hastens to end with its scorching days and balmy nights. Just when we think everything is dead, life pops up in a race of its own.
This is one of the last photos I took before I left my house in South Carolina. Enjoy.
Spring Snow, Birds Galore
Who says the old ground hog can’t be wrong or half right? This transition into spring has been a strange one. At least it isn’t officially Spring until March 21. All the strange weather fronts have brought a multitude of birds to my yard and feeders. I can’t go out the front door without being screeched at, dived at or otherwise harassed by my avian friends. I wouldn’t have it any other. I only hate that in two weeks I have to cut my three Leland Cypress trees in front of my house. I have several nests in the trees.
I’m putting my house on the market in preparation to moving back to Mississippi. All the hustle and bustle should make me happy, but part of me is sad to leave my home of 11 years. I think the move will be good and bring new possibilities, like seeing old friends and my grandkids more often.
I hope that my Blog followers stay with me in the move because I’d hate to lose you also.

Never Too Cold For Love

Looking For Love
Who says you can’t fall in love in one day? Is there a limit on how much time we spend together before we can call it love?
I personally think time is meaningless when it comes to love. As I watched all the birds outside my door today, I thought about this. Each little bird braved freezing temperatures, courted, mated, and built houses in one day.
Remember all those young couples who met, married at a moments notice, and survived World War II, only to be together for over fifty years? Time had nothing to do with the survival of their marriages. Those people believed in working at relationships until they got them right.
I used to tell my kids that their Dad and I were Dinosaurs. When they asked why, we told them we were one of the last couples they knew who were married to the same person they walked down the aisle with, the first time. Our family wasn’t made up of his kids my kids, and our kids.
This blog may upset some. I’m not saying that today’s relationships are wrong , but just think how easy it would be with one last name, no hyphens, and waking up next to the same wonderful spouse for generations.
I’m so lonesome I could cry!
Happy Earth Day!
First Public Appearance
Today, I had the honor of speaking to the Batesburg/Leesville High School Book Club. This was my first public appearance as a published Author. Whew! That title is still hard to get used to. I suppose it won’t seem real until I see the receipts for the first sales. The students viewed my book trailer and rated it as “great.” The trailer sparked a lively conversation about writing and reading novels. I found it refreshing to find such academic enthusiasm among high school students. Though a little hesitant at first, they soon opened up and expressed interest in the writing process. How do you name characters and do the characters in the book become like family? These two questions gave my gray cells a workout.
My thoughts quickly ran back over the anguished nights, I’d spent worrying over Brandon Falcon in my first book. He became my friend and later the entire book was like a child. (Brain Child) I’d get defensive when people said unkind things about my book. It felt like they were attacking me personally, and since the book had so much of my sweat and agony in it, the pain was real. As I’ve grown as a writer, I’ve learned to take the criticism, and better yet, I can now take the comments and use them to evaluate my work and improve it. Below, I’ve attached the link to my book trailer.
Please enjoy.

Wisteria-Mysterious Plant
Wisteria
As a child, as soon as the weather warmed we spent most of our waking hours outside. We walked everywhere barefoot and carefree. A long dusty road wound through thick woods to Grandma’s. As we walked to her house to play, we passed myriads of cascading purple flowers.
When I asked what they were, my sister call it Mysteria.(She used to tell me all kinds of things, and I usually believed her.) It made sense really, for the beautiful flowers hung heavily on the limbs, giving them a droopy, mossy look. I pictured it climbing the walls of some old stone mansion, digging into the rock and shrouding the old place with mystery and secrets.
Today I know the real name, and I still think the plant looks mysterious. I have often tried to capture the lovely blooms with my camera. The photographs never give full justice to the magnificent vine. I finally got a few shots that are decent if not prize worthy.
Please enjoy, and use your imagination to dream up a story about this flower.
Happy Spring
