First Public Appearance

Today, I had the honor of speaking to the Batesburg/Leesville High School Book Club. This was my first public appearance as a published Author. Whew! That title is still hard to get used to. I suppose it won’t seem real until I see the receipts for the first sales. The students viewed my book trailer and rated it as “great.” The trailer sparked a lively conversation about writing and reading novels. I found it refreshing to find such academic enthusiasm among high school students. Though a little hesitant at first, they soon opened up and expressed interest in the writing process. How do you name characters and do the characters in the book become like family? These two questions gave my gray cells a workout.

My thoughts quickly ran back over the anguished nights, I’d spent worrying over Brandon Falcon in my first book. He became my friend and later the entire book was like a child. (Brain Child) I’d get defensive when people said unkind things about my book. It felt like they were attacking me personally, and since the book had so much of my sweat and agony in it, the pain was real. As I’ve grown as a writer, I’ve learned to take the criticism, and better yet, I can now take the comments and use them to evaluate my work and improve it. Below, I’ve attached the link to my book trailer.

Please enjoy.

A Great Beginning

My Novel Jungle Blooms won first place in the FRW Golden palm Contest in the Sing Title Category.  As my first novel, it feels like a child that has finally grown up and is ready to go out into the world. It is currently being read by an editor and I have my fingers crossed that it will be published.

I will now be concentrating on re-edits of my second book Tiponi-Child of Hope. Tiponi is the story of a Hopi Indian girl, born an albino, who is actually only half human.  She is spirit.  She will grow up to be White Buffalo Calf Women and help save the world from a terrible disaster.

Keep In touch.

All encouragement and comments are appreciated.

Butterflies , Sweet Romance

Butterflies are Free

Butterflies are Free

Romance is the sweet part of loving. Growing excitement, gentle touches and beauty. Not just physical beauty, but beauty from within. The phone call to say hi, the note that says I thought of you today, the pressed flower. Look at this butterfly and think of how it glides from flower to flower, sipping sweetness and moving on.

I dare you to think of something bad about butterflies. It’s true. Just look at the beauty of this insect which brings oohs and ahhs. Have you ever heard anyone say yuck it’s a butterfly. If you did, I hope you kept a safe distance from the person who said it.

     As I

photographed this beauty, it cooperated and stayed in my flower bed for nearly an hour. I was mesmerized by its color and the way it flitted from flower to flower. This little animal is programmed to drink as much nectar as possible and then start another life over by laying an egg. They go about their business, not bothering anyone, but bringing pleasure to those who happen to see it.

On a deeper level, think about this. With all the things God had to take care of, he took the time to paint this little insect like a masterpiece. Why? Could it survive just as well if it was plain brown? Yes, but not nearly as pleasing to the eye. We have a tendency to take for granted the beauty that sits right outside our door. Instead, we rush around, looking for things to entertain us and bring us pleasure. Stop and look out the door. Butterflies are free.
